The Driving Instructor
My name is John Courtney and I'm 43 years old and I live in the Huyton area of Liverpool.
I passed my driving test in January 1981 and I have spent the last 27 years gaining further experience, driving throughout the country as both a courier, then a taxi driver instructor several years ago. I have coverd hundreds of thousands of miles in those 27 years so i have seen virtually everthing.
I am extremely reliable and patient. I have taught pupils ranging from 17-50 plus both male and female, all to the highest strandards. The lessons will be structured to get the best for you out of each and every lesson always making the maximum progress.

Learning to Drive
The Driving Licence
To obtain your licence, which you need to have before you start to drive, apply either to D.V.L.A. or you can get the application form D1 from any post office. When you receive it, sign it, it isn't valid until you do.
The Tests
Theory test 2 parts.
Part 1: multiple choice questions, pass mark is 43 out of 50.
Part 2: hazard perception test, 15 hazards to spot 1-5 points for each hazard seen, pass mark 44 out of 75.
Help available with both parts.
Revision aids supplied free of charge, subject to conditions.
The Driving Test.
40 minute drive approx, to show you have reached the required strandard. During the drive you will be asked to perform 2 reversing manoeuvres, either bay parks, parallel parks, turning in the road, or reversing round a corner and maybe an emergency stop.
The examiner will assess any errors you make and depending on their degree of seriousness, mark them on the driving test report form (DL25). You will fail if you commit a serious or dangerous fault, you will also fail if you commit more than 15 minor faults.

How many lessons will I need?
Difficult to say exactly but somewhere between 20-40 and depending on any extra practice with family and friends but also depends on your own capability.
